Day 5:Tour of CBS Radio- 670 The Score and Horizon League Softball Tournament

Today, we embarked on our final leg of the journey to learn more about Sports Journalism. Our first stop was the CBS Radio tour at 670 The Score with Mr. Brendan McCaffrey. We all had such a fabulous time exploring more about the media and sports entertainment/radio world. He showed us production studios, we met men who provide voice overs for commercials, and we even got a chance to see a live radio broadcast in progress. Students learned all about the reasoning behind the 14 second delay in live radio, and they had great questions that Brendan answered with ease! At the end of our tour, we were even able to see the B96 studio!

After our tour, we drove to Taylor Street and had lunch at Pompei enjoying some Italian food before watching some Division I collegiate softball. After lunch, we drove down the street to the University of Illinois at Chicago, Mrs. Fox's alma mater, and watched two games of Horizon League Softball. In the first game, University of Detroit Mercy run-ruled Valparaiso 8-0 to end their conference tournament hopes. We even had a chance to see a grand slam homerun to cap off Detriot's advancement in the tournament. UIC, the #1 seed, faced Youngstown State (#2 seed) next, and when we left, the score was UIC 3, YSU 0. We are all hoping for a UIC win!

Tonight's final assignment is to write the last sidebar about the statistics from the games we saw to conclude the final Sports Journalism blog for the week.

Students will compile their writings, and we will bind and copy the experience and writings into a final book of our week. We had a great one!
